HOW TO START YOUR OWN
EDGEMASTER SHARPENING BUSINESS

CONGRATULATIONS, you have completed the first step to your success in the sharpening business. We know that because you have read this far.

Jon and HowardBefore you go any further, go to the bathroom and look in the mirror. Ask yourself, do I really want to be self employed. Think for a minute, and if the answer is "I think so" then keep reading. Have you missed the kids ball games, concerts or field trips that you would like to have gone to if you could have gotten away from work That's OK, we know the answer.

Next, look in the yellow pages directory for your area and see how many people have gotten there before you. They are not competition; they are a resource for you to check out. Call them and ask for pricing information, availability and references (where they sharpen now). This would give you an idea what you should charge. Match their price but give better service.

Sharpening takes a little basic dexterity. You could be the 70 year old woman who got an Edgemaster, a 62 year old man who is blind in one eye who makes a good living with an Edgemaster, a 21 year old boy with a mental disability is becoming self-sufficient sharpening with his Edgemaster. What I am saying is, if they can do it, why can't you. What are you waiting for, more information? Well here it is.

The EDGEMASTER MODEL 400 blade sharpener is only $199.00 and it will run on a 1250 watt inverter that can attach directly to the battery of your car. These inverters can be purchased at battery shops, some hardware stores or direct from EDGEMASTER of OREGON, for about $145.00.

To get started, you need an EDGEMASTER MODEL 400 and enough time to promote your business with price flyers. Next, sharpen knives or garden tools. Finally, some way to get to the bank with your earnings. Whether you only sharpen at home for your friends and neighbors or have some sort of transportation for your new business, you will make money if you offer sharpening services. The demand is huge!

It could be done as simply as mounting the EDGEMASTER MODEL 400 on the back of a bicycle and going door to door. For instance, you could knock on doors or leave flyers on porches, then go back and sharpen in front of the house by plugging an extension cord into the customer's garage.

You could go as fancy as getting a van with lettering on the side and install an inverter for your power. Restaurants, hospitals, assisted living centers, and catering companies, to name a few, always need sharp knives. Even knife shops often don't always have their own sharpening machines and you could sharpen for them. The EDGEMASTER of OREGON.com web site lists dozens of potential customers.

Saturday markets, farmer's markets, garden shops and hardware stores are a great place to set up and sharpen tools one or more days a month. Flea markets can be very lucrative. Go to garage sales, buy knives and garden tools for 10 to 25 cents, sharpen them and offer them for $3.00 to $5.00 at flea markets. The sky is the limit.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS, you make your own schedule. You can schedule the time you want to work and when not to work. You won't even call it work any more. Now you can go to the kids or grand kid's games, concerts or take them fishing, THE CHOICE IS YOURS.
